A few months ago we moved across the country from Washington to Florida to escape an unfortunate situation and come help my grandparents on their farm.
We came here in our beat up trailblazer packed to the brim and had to leave everything else behind in a storage unit in Washington State.
Our plan was to move our belongings here in a few months after we had gotten jobs and saved up but, it turns out finding work in our area proved to be a slow process and now three months in we have just finally both started working.
When going to pay my storage unit in January, I found the people who bought it out last year had raised the rates almost 50%.
With how little we make at our new jobs, existing bills, and our car barely hanging in there after driving across the country, it will be at least another 3 months before we could save enough to retrieve our storage unit.
We spent all of our savings getting here and completely starting over after owning our own business for 6 years and living in Washington our whole lives. We are trying to create income any way we can through employment, farmers markets with our farm goods, and side gigs found on Facebook but, it has been far more slow going and tedious than we ever could have imagined.
We will be forever grateful for any help we receive through this journey. I will gladly answer any questions you may have and all funds will be going to truck rental, travel, and gas costs.
I would like to add that we had planned at one point to just hire a moving company but considering the condition of our storage unit, which is packed to the ceiling after shoving everything in there at the end of our lease, and that we have items with multiple friends and family that will need to be gathered, the only way we see this working is us going back to Washington, gathering our things from multiple places, and driving a moving truck back ourselves.
Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for your support.
