Hello everyone! My name is Janiya Pipkin and I am your current Miss Fayetteville Dogwood Festival 2023! I will be competing for the title of Miss North Carolina 2023-2024 from June 19th to June 24, 2023 in High Point, North Carolina! All proceeds will go towards votes for People's Choice in the Miss North Carolina Pageant and any other funds needed to complete this journey!
I am a criminal justice and pre-law graduate from Methodist University. I will further my education by attending law school in the fall of 2024! Currently, I am serving my city by representing Fayetteville, NC and promoting my community service initiative called "Speak Up".
While preparing for my current title, I had to decide what community service initiative I would promote while representing the title. Speak up is my way of creating a platform of comfortability for others who may feel discouraged with certain situations.
In 2021, approximately 42% of students felt persistently sad and/or hopeless, and nearly 29% experienced poor mental health. A study that took place in January 2022 found that 21.8 % of U.S. children from the ages 3-17 have one or more of the common mental health conditions. As a college student and aspiring attorney, I see the desperate need of outlets for people of all ages! My community service initiative is called “Speak up”. It is geared towards helping people find effective ways of communication so that they may be comfortable to speak up on different issues.
I chose this specific CSI to let others know that it is okay to not be okay. Instead of wondering when things will change, get up, get out and get active! Find different ways to take your mind off the negativity that may surround you. While being in a mentoring position, I’ve realized that everyone reacts and deals with things differently. So, instead of trying to find one specific way of speaking up, I’ve decided to look at different avenues and find the right outlet for the right person!
Social media is a very important factor in this current generation. While social media can show a lot of negativities, I am currently using multiple social media platforms to promote positive and healthy ways of communication and encouragement! Having the honor of being a local titleholder and mentor, I want to influence my followers in a positive way!
