On April 20th, 2024 my son Dominic will be competing in a special needs charity event entitled, “Swing for the Stars.” Swing for the Stars is a charity Fight Night event founded by Tiger Schulmann’s Martial Arts. Dominic is a 14 year old young man that has an intellectual disability. He also has a wide array of physical and cognitive challenges. Despite his disability he has been training at Tiger Shulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts in Colmar, Pa for the past 8 years. This event will give Tiger Schulmann’s students with special needs an opportunity to become a “Pro Fighter” for the night and face off against their favorite professional fighter in the ring. Dominic will be facing UFC super star, Julio Arce. The event will be held at the Rahway Rec Center with a capacity of 1200 people. It will also be streamed via YouTube.
Due to the proximity of most Tiger Schulmann’s schools, (NJ and NY) the charity that Swing for the Stars typically supports is not in local to our area. Dominic and I thought this would be an opportunity for him to raise money for local non for profit. Dominic had decided to raise money for his school, Our Lady of Confidence. OLC’s mission is to facilitate the complete development of the students with intellectual disabilities to their fullest potential, spiritually, intellectually, mentally, physically, and emotionally. OLC is special place that provides love, support and learning for kids with down syndrome, intellectual disabilities and other special needs. 100% of the funds raised will go to OLC’s student activity fund.

**Update** Since we have crushed our original goal we have added Rise Up Cafe as a second organization that we will donate to. Rise Up's Mission is to offer job opportunities to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Rise Up is located in Sarasota, FL and is one of Dominic's favorite places to visit!
