Barbie is only 4 years old and has been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure caused by kidney stones. She’s had severe allergies her whole life, and these stones are likely from all the steroids they’ve put her on. Now to save her life and give her possibly up to 3 more years of life she needs a specialty SUB surgery, since she’s so small, to bypass the stones and hopefully restore some function to the one kidney she has left!
We are hours away from the nearest specialist and will be traveling to try and save Barbie. The extra sad part, she is our son’s puppy, and he just had a near death drowning experience, just to find out the next day his baby is dying. It’s been incredibly difficult, and we are doing everything we can to save Barbie.
We are doing an IV at home ourselves to give her extra fluids, we feed her a home cooked specialty kidney diet fresh for each meal. We are trying our hardest and it’s so sad.
Barbie does not have pet insurance as she was born sick and pet insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions. So we’ve already spent over $20,000 on her by age 4. Now this next surgery is going to be $15–30,000. I will update this page as soon as we know.
