Hello everyone! My name is Kathryn Ivey and I'm an environmental science student at the University of Houston- Clear Lake. I've been accepted into an education abroad program in the Amazon Rainforest for this November. At this time, the Amazon will be in its low water state, revealing parts of the often-hidden river basin. It will be the prime time to get hands on experience learning about Amazonian soil ecology, deforestation, sedimentation and erosion. During this expedition, my days will consist of hiking excursions led by field experts, exotic wildlife sightings, cultural engagement with local communities, and scientific observation. My nights will be spend peacefully traversing the Rio Negro in Manaus, Brazil aboard the Iracema. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and a career defining accomplishment. I am extremely enthusiastic to partake in this journey and carry the knowledge I gain with me as I complete my bachelor's degree and begin my master's. All contributions are greatly appreciated! I thank you endlessly for assisting me in achieving my dreams that have been years in the making!
