March Break 2026: A group of 10 Ontario high school students together with 9 adult volunteers will travel to Kingston, Jamaica to construct 3 new wood homes for families in need as well as to support the recovery and reconstruction of community buildings damaged in the area surrounding St. Elizabeth during the recent Hurricane Melissa.

Each house building project will be led by a volunteer experienced construction manager with a crew of student and adult volunteers working in Riverton City, located just outside of Kingston. Housing projects are assigned to the families deemed most in need by known local community advocates. The volunteer group will then travel to the St. Elizabeth region to assist in the area recovery and reconstruction, with specific projects to be assigned closer to the date of the trip.
The purpose of the trip is to empower our young Canadian volunteers with the understanding of their own individual potential to positively impact the lives of others in need. Students will come away with a broader perspective of community life across borders and an increased sense of both personal and global responsibility in response to poverty and disasters. Along with a new and useful set of basic construction skills and teamwork in special situations, students will also acquire volunteer hours to meet their high school graduation requirements.
We have organized two similar past trips to help build houses in Jamaica in 2017 and 2019, which proved to be great successes for communities in need & all volunteers. We'd like to do it again, with your help!
Raise a Roof Jamaica is a home-grown group with no administration fees. ALL funds raised go directly to cover volunteer travel and consumable construction materials to be purchased in Kingston. $56,000 will cover costs of 20 volunteers, with each individual responsible to raise $2,800 to cover expenses as follows:
Thank you for any assistance you can provide to help us get there!
We will also be bringing humanitarian aid bags of collected items for donation in Jamaica - school supplies, sports equipment, clothing, toys and more. Please email us at Raisearoofjamaica@gmail.com to connect for further information or to donate items. God bless!
