Last year Michael was a Ukrainian foreign exchange student at university of Nevada- Reno. Michael is a senior this year and cannot go home to attend university for several reasons; his safety, and given his age, he may be conscripted into the Ukrainian military to serve in the war. Once the war in Ukraine began in February 2022, Michael could no longer safely return home. He is lucky to be staying with a wonderfully generous and kind host family who has agreed to continue hosting Michael.
Because university costs vary vastly between the US and Ukraine, Michael's parents simply could not budget for education here. Both Michael's host family parents are teachers and have already put their own children through college. They can provide Michael housing but cannot pay his tuition and other fees. In addition, due to Michael not being a United States citizen, he is unable to apply for any federal aid or university he applies to. This is a benefit available to only US citizens; thus, his parents in Ukraine can also not file for financial assistance. His host parents are also not able to file because they are not his biological parents or legal guardians.
Michael dreams of continuing his education here in Nevada and has applied to The University of Las Vegas, Lourdes University, and Bowling Green State University. However, he will not realize his dream of a university education without financial assistance.
Please help Michael's dream come true and stay safely here by donating any amount you feel comfortable with.
Thank you!
