AFSCME Local 1110, the Union representing the building service, groundskeeping, and dining service workers at Illinois State University, went on strike April 8th for a fair contract! Not only is ISU refusing to negotiate a fair contract, but they have also started to hire strikebreakers to fill in for the essential work these employees do. AFSCME workers have not received a raise in two years, and are some of the lowest paid workers on campus.
The ISU Labor Coalition represents unions on campus coming together in support of each other, including United Faculty of ISU-UPI Local 4100, Illinois State University Education Association, AFSCME Local 1110, AFSCME Local 3236, SEIU Local 73 Graduate Workers Union, Lab School Education Association, and the ISU Student Support Professionals chapter of UPI Local 4100.
We are coming together to gather donations for ASFCME Local 1110 to support their strike funds. All donations collected will be sent directly to the Local. For individuals who want to send their own donation directly, checks can be made out to “AFSCME Local 1110” and mailed to Jon Fears, 103 E Douglas, P.O. Box 241, Carlock, IL 61725.
