Hello friends and family!
If you don't know Oscar and Ana, they are asylum seekers from Cuba who made their way into the United States this fall. They lived with our family for a month, and are now on their own. They work in Lake Station, and live about three miles west of there.
We are seeking to raise money for Oscar and Ana's transportation this winter. They will not receive a social security card until June and do not have the ability to purchase a car or get a license. There is a pastor in their area who can drive them to work in the mornings, but they have no one to take them home in the evenings. But they can Uber!
Unfortunately, they make such little money at their jobs, that Ubering five days a week is not realistic.
They also do not live close enough to Valparaiso for our friends and family to drive them consistently.
One week of Ubering for them is around $75. I would love to raise at least enough to help them through the end of March (12 weeks). Anything we raise above that will continue to bless them in their financial hardship. Even after the winter they will be forced to walk home over three miles, so more is helpful. They will soon need to pay for child care as well since Ana is pregnant. If we can raise enough to get them through March, that would be great. If we can take them further, awesome.
