On Saturday night, Robert Newman was helping fight a wildfire north of Ingomar, Montana, when rapidly changing winds caused the fire to turn unexpectedly. Thanks to the heroic action’s of Travis Good, Robert’s life was saved, but he suffered severe burn injuries.

Robert was airlifted to the University of Utah Burn Center, where he is currently in the Burn ICU. He is intubated and receiving around-the-clock care from an incredible team of doctors and nurses.

Robert sustained burns over 26% of his body, primarily second-degree burns, with third-degree burns to his hands, knees, and fingers. The first several days are critical as doctors work to stabilize his blood pressure, complete fluid resuscitation, and begin the long road toward recovery. Travis is also recovering from serious burns to his hands and arms.

While Robert focuses on healing, the family is facing an overwhelming journey. And the medical bills will start stacking up.

If you know Robert, you know he is not one to ask for any kind of hand out.

Today, we’re asking on his behalf.

Your donation will help ease the financial burden on the Newman family so they can focus on what matters most: Robert’s recovery.

Please keep Robert, his family, Travis Good, and everyone affected by this tragic fire in your prayers.

Thank you for your generosity, love, and support during this incredibly difficult time.

“Don’t Weaken.” Those words have become a reminder of the strength Robert carries every day, and together, we will help him through the fight ahead. ❤️

Dad has spent the last 7-8 days getting his infections cleared and two BTM surgeries completed. He was able to be taken off the ventilator today! His breathing and vitals are stable and his team thinks he will have a successful extubation. He is still kind of out of it due to sedation meds he is clearing in his system and being in a medically induced coma for 14 days . He was able to talk, although his voice is hoarse due to intubation tube. He has his sense of humor and was giving us and the nurses a hard time . We hope to see him have more mental clarity in the days to come recovering from the coma and successful wound improvement. Robert’s next step is to have the final grafts in roughly 3-4 weeks . We appreciate all the messages, calls, and prayers. So sorry if we haven’t gotten back to anyone, our total focus has been on our dad; also, Steph’s phone quit and lost a lot of her messages . Due to still being in the Burn ICU and high risk for infection given his condition, he cannot have any other new visitors for the time being. We will definitely provide an update when he is able make calls and talk without tiring out.

Update 8/3

Sorry for the delay on the update . The last few days have been extremely difficult and hard to provide and update when things were literally changing hour to hour. On Thursday it was confirmed dad had severe pneumonia, sepsis, and wound infection. From Thursday to Friday, the provider informed us each morning that if he were to make it through the next 8 hours would be a miracle and to call family to come. They had us discuss options with palliative care which was extremely difficult conversation, and one we don’t care to have again…. On Saturday and going into Sunday, he was able to clear his severe sepsis with the help of major antibiotic dosing. The surgeon was able to place BTM on his hands and arms Monday. The surgeon will be doing both sides of the legs and stomach on Wednesday. He is currently on the ventilator and his lungs will be the next large hurdle with the fluid and pneumonia in them. The surgeon said ideally would like to get him off the ventilator into the weekend or beginning of next week, if things improve. The final grafts will be 2-3 weeks from the BTM graft followed by weeks of monitoring in the burn unit to make sure it was successful. We are sorry if there is anyone we haven’t gotten back to; We have been so completely overwhelmed because for 2-3 days we thought we were going to lose him. He’s inching closer in the right direction slowly, and we couldn’t be more grateful! He is most definitely not out of the woods yet, but we will take the small wins. Thank you for the calls, donations, texts, and most importantly prayers. We will try to provide updates more regularly . Thank you all from the bottom of our heart!

After the debridement and temporary allograft yesterday, it was really hard on dad and now his smoke inhalation in his lungs is blooming I believe they called it, and they had to up the ventilator to help him breath and he’s retaining more fluid. They are doing a sample test and had it sent off to the lab to see if he has pneumonia. Given the condition that his lungs are getting worse, they have to get his lungs better to be able to operate on the wounds. We basically have to see in the next 3-5 days or so if his lungs improved and the earliest they would operate on the wounds is next week potentially. They will be checking his wounds in the meantime to make sure the infection hasn’t come back. It’s a wait and see situation for now.
