Our 3 year old Cheeto boy was acting off on Sunday afternoon and I posted a video asking for some advice.. He ended up going out the doggy door that same evening and hadn’t come home since.
We went around the neighborhood shaking treats, calling for him, left food and litter out for him and had no luck.
The following night Tuesday, we put flyers up around town and as we pulled into our driveway our neighbor walked over telling us he had bad news and that Cheeto was passed away in his garage. Logan went over there with him to make sure it was Cheeto. He seen Cheeto laying there not moving, flies on and flying all around him. Logan then walked back over to our house to quickly build a box for him and I gathered a blanket and some of his belongings from inside- This is when I updated my lost pet post to let everyone know he had passed away.
As I was gathering some stuff Logan quickly called up from outside for me to come outside. I rushed out there to Logan holding Cheeto and Logan said “he’s not dead” And sure enough, Cheeto was alive. Barely. He was hard to the touch, cold, and barely breathing. But he stared up at us as we gave him some kisses and Logan rushed to the only ER vet that was available to take him in the cities, about 1.5 hours away. Cheeto was taken in and they knew right away that he had a UTI and there was a crystallized blockage in his urethra making it impossible for him to go to the bathroom and causing toxins to release into his body which was slowly killing him. His blood panels and all of his levels throughout his body were not good, his heart beat was very slow and his temperate was so cold.
They proceeded with surgery and within 5 minutes they had gotten the obstruction out and has been monitoring Cheeto since. They’ve been calling us and giving us updates throughout the days. They said that he was a very very sick kitty and we found him and got him just in time.
His body temperature, heart rate, and vitals have been slowly increasing and getting better since. The only thing they’ve been waiting on is for his kidneys to get better.
This morning they called and said his levels are back to normal, his kidneys look good, and they are scheduled to pull his catheter out today to see how he does going to the bathroom on his own. They are also going to work on getting him to eat and drink some food today preparing for him to hopefully come home by tomorrow!
He will need to be on a special prescription diet for the remainder of his life to keep these UTIs that he's prone too at bay the best of our abilitiy, with everything being said and done for his procedure, medicines, IVs, testing, etc. They gave us a quote the night we dropped him off that if we did decide to save him and proceed with surgery it would be $5000+ for his stay, he is part of our family, and we couldn't say no.
So we are reaching out to all of you, trying to help raise money through this fundraiser or VENMO @kaylaseverson Any donations, thoughts, or prayers for him is so incredibly helpful. Thank you so much!
This is such a miracle and we are so happy to be hopefully bringing Cheeto back home tomorrow. ❤️
