Hello everyone, my name is Jancalo Mediavilla, and this is my dog, Prince.

Prince (12 years old) was taken to the vet for a 10:30 AM appointment due to a chronic cough for about a week. At first, it sounded like kennel cough, but after being examined and getting X-rays, the doctor found fluid building up around his lungs. Prince has a pre-existing heart murmur, which we were told has been worsening with age and his anxiety.

The vet recommended blood work, heart medications (including pimobendane and enalapril), and long-term monitoring with repeat echocardiograms every six months. We declined the furosemide injection at the time because we already had the tablets at home. Which we were recommended to give two tablets of furosemide immediately once we arrived back from the visit.

Prince was taken to the back for blood work, which took longer than expected. When he was brought back, we immediately noticed that his breathing didn’t look right. As we were leaving, his condition seemed to worsen, so we went back to ask for help. The doctor was unavailable, and we were told that his symptoms were likely related to his heart disease.

On the way home, Prince's health rapidly declined. He was struggling to breathe, couldn’t stand, couldn’t open his eyes, and was clearly in distress. We rushed him to the Emergency Vet, and he was immediately admitted for 24-hour emergency hospitalization.

We were then given the worst news a pet owner can hear:

Prince is not breathing properly despite treatment, and his heart could give out at any moment.

Just hours earlier, he was coughing but otherwise acting like himself. Now, he is fighting for his life, and we are unsure how this decline happened so suddenly.

Prince is currently hospitalized and receiving critical care. The medical costs are overwhelming, and we are doing everything we can to give him a chance to survive. Any donation, share, or kind thought means more than words can express.

Thank you for reading and thank you for helping us fight for Prince.
