As a fellow veteran, dog runner, and seasoned marathoner with my dogs hearing about the 22-mile walk to take place on September 18 to help raise awareness of the 22 veterans a day who commit suicide I knew we had to take action. So my pack and I have decided to take to the great outdoors and register for the virtual event of this walk so we can use the course either the day of the event or a few days before or after and complete 22 miles to raise awareness of this cause.
Why walk with my dogs? First, my American Foxhounds can do the distance. Second, the breed being the breed of one of our founding fathers George Washington himself would be proud of such a task we put in front of us. Third, with everything going on in the world today- our veterans and future veterans (that is present servicemen and women need to be recognized and because of the present situation the numbers if something is not done to raise awareness, may end up going up!) And Finally, with my dogs because Paws of War is an organization that works to pair shelter dogs and veterans who may have thoughts of suicide due to depression, PTSD, and more- helping both the veteran and shelter dog have a purpose and "normal" life in this crazy mixed-up world today!
