After attending to many other rescues. I'm now at the mercy of asking my friends and fellow Rescuers to help me and my baby now. As I've been recovering from covid. I realized my baby was not acting right and breathing good. I rushed him off to Cabarrus animal on Monday.  They upped his meds and said they would Monitor and did Blood work. Fast forward to Friday he comes in at morning and collapses at my feet. Panting heavily and I knew something was wrong. I whisk him back off to Cabarrus animal. Only after an ekg, blood work and ultrasound was I told I needed to rush in over to CARE. This is a place that has treated him for his heart most of his life. While they are wonderful it's not something you want to ever hear. " You need to rush your baby over emergency surgery to care now."

I tried to stay strong for him, he has been my service dog for 12 years now. Is my turn to take care of him and I'm ensure his safety. Trying to keep him calm while getting across town in traffic was no easy task. Then to be told that he had succumbed to splenic hemangioma. This is not what I wanted to hear. That my baby was in a lot of pain. And we need surgery right away. After going through all the protocol to ensure that his age his birthday is next month he will be 14. And his heart condition and the condition that is in now would be safe to do surgery. I'm coming back to me to tell me everything looked good they thought he was strong enough for surgery. They wanted to proceed to take his spleen out and see what was going on. This is not what I woke up on a Friday morning thinking I was going to be facing.

All the surgery was almost 3 hours long. The vet called to tell me that they had a hard time at first stabilizing him. His blood pressure and heart rate. They were able to remove the spleen and the large mass that was attached to it that was causing so much pain and bleeding, it had ruptured. Not only that but the cancer has attached itself to the liver in the size of a golf ball , several other small places. None of these cuz they removed just the spleen and the mass on it. I chose to close him up and see how he does and waking up and stabilizing. After surgery. That's an update this morning he is doing well, although anxious. But he knows his job is to protect me. And dogs are unconditionally loving and no but they're supposed to do. Confused since he can't find me. And not knowing what's going on. Yet in a lot of pain. I would give anything to take it away from him. I am begging you to help if you can. I'll be in a disability have helped others and have made many fundraisers for the Humane Society Cabarrus County. I now have to focus my energy on my own baby. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated to ease my strain on life. And free me to take care of my sweet baby boy for as many months as God will allow me to spend with him. They came at me with a quote before surgery, after the emergency vet and the vet visit on monday. To the sum of $7,000 the $12,000. This is just for the care surgery and visit there. Providing he will be coming home within 72 hours. This does not include his ongoing care. He will not be doing chemotherapy. There is no cure for this. And it has spread. I'm asking each of you for your prayers for comfort. For the knowledge to take care of him and make him comfortable. And for your help if you can with donations. He was also diagnosed with CCD a couple months ago. And I thought that was heartbreaking and hard dealing with that at night. And then this. He is my special boy. Prayers are always welcome. I will continue to update as I get them. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Update: Shadow has good and bad days. 3rd pathology report came back and still benign  But unsure of what type it is and what is on the liver and lymph area.  Vet states 3 small growths and one large one on the liver.  I have chosen not to do biopsies or ultrasound. Or chemo.  Monitor his heart and making him comfortable right now is all I can do.  His birthday is the 20th. We will celebrate in style.  And enjoy every day we have together.  Thank you all for your support and love.  It truly means a lot.  I will keep you updated as we go along. I just don't have the funds and don't want to put him through anything else right now.  It has been a lot and his heart is my main concern. Continue prayers and positive Vibes please.

Update: April 1, 2023

I talked to the vet that did the emergency spleenectomy surgery today. They have sent the spleen back off to pathology as they are confused and getting mixed findings of cancer tissue.  We still do not have a definite answer on what is going on. He is still on three pills twice a day for bleeding. Very expensive. And his heart pill to keep his heart rhythm going. He had an episode on Wednesday that scared me. But other than that he seems to be doing well. I am still needing donations if anybody wants to donate and help it would be appreciated. I wanted to update and thank everybody that's donated and helped me along the way. It's very much appreciated and he's doing good for what he's been through. Here's to hoping he makes it to his birthday April the 20th. He'll be 14 my sweet baby boy💕
