If you've met Sharla, you undoubtedly know her as outgoing, engaging, often the comic entertainer in the room. What you may not know is that she's battled clinical depression and Bipolar II Disorder for most of her life. While she’s worked tirelessly to manage her mental health with regular clinical care, she's experienced a decline in this ability over the years. Additionally, she has diabetes and suffers increasing pain from injury and degenerative conditions in her spine and hips. Together these have led to a decision that leaves her vulnerable and in need.
In January of this year, in consultation with family, friends and her medical providers, Sharla resigned from work and began the process of applying for Social Security Disability Insurance. At this point, she has exhausted her personal funds. After a life spent caring for others as a teacher, pastor, then nurse, she now finds herself in immediate need of others' help.
This is where we fit in. With her bank account depleted, any amount we give is helpful - nothing is too small. Even if you aren’t in a position to donate at this time, you can still contribute by sharing the link to this page!
Sharla's expenses are about $2,200 per month at the moment, of which a little over $1,600 is for past and present medical costs. All funds that we raise will go to these monthly expenses.
She has applied for Medicaid and SSI as well while she awaits a determination on her disability. The granting of these will reduce her need, but the wait is indeterminant at present. Ultimately, the need for fundraising will disappear and her independence will be restored when Sharla's approved for disability. Until then, her fundraiser will be updated to reflect any changes.
A bank account has been set up exclusively for donations to Sharla. Money from this fundraiser will go solely to this account, then be deposited only to her personal account. I want to assure everyone of complete transparency. Feel free to reach me through the Contact organizer link below. And please leave me a way to reach you back! I’ll be glad to provide any and all statements you wish to review. In addition, I’d love the chance to hear from some of her friends I’ve not met as well as to catch up with others!
Our many, many thanks for your help!
***UPDATE***
We are humbled and deeply grateful! The amazing level of support and encouragement will see Sharla through the next 60 days or so while she awaits decisions on long term assistance. With these determinations taking place, we've decided to suspend further contributions at this time. Please know how deeply grateful we are and how very real your impact is. Your generosity is making all the difference at this critical time!
Please feel free to reach me at cwvogt24@yahoo.com with any questions.
With sincere thanks,
Clifton
