To whom it may concern,
My name is Colt Kasten, I am a student at Park Hills Central High School. I have been given the opportunity of being invited to attend the Medical Conference at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. I was nominated because of my outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity. Only a select few are chosen each year, usually only one student from each area high school. Although this is mainly a medical conference, it also includes all areas of STEM studies. This will be in Boston Massachusetts at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. There will be many college professors and Nobel prize winners to guide me andshow me the various and abundant opportunities.
I have received a $300 scholarship that will be applied to cost of the conference, which leaves a balance of $985. That is only for the cost of the conference and does not cover travel and lodging while attending the conference. My mom, Lori, is a single parent with a limited income. I am writing to you in hopes of securing more funding so that I can attend this conference that I believe would be greatly beneficial to my future. I currently have a 3.86 GPA and intend to take the ACT test in the spring. I have been a good student and involved in many activities at my school and my local community college. I am a member of my local swim team, a member of the pep club that cheers on our teams at home and away games, I play percussion in the local community band, I sing in the high school and local college community choir, and I actively participate in the various theatre and show choir projects at Mineral Area College. I am also enrolled in the Upward Bound program through Mineral Area College as well as the TRIO/Talent Search program, both helping me prepare for college by giving me help on writing resumes, performing mock interviews, job shadowing, essay writing, public speaking practice, and more.

My future plan includes continuing with the A+ program at my high school and receiving 2 free years of a MissouriCommunity College education. Attending this conference would help me with my long-term goal of attaining scholarships, grants, and networking to continue my education in the field of meteorology/atmospheric science/engineering. I believe this conference is an opportunity to open doors that I would not otherwise have access to.
Your consideration of helping and supporting me is very much appreciated. Any amount is meaningful and accepted with a great deal of gratitude. I would be happy to write a report and submit it to you after the conference about what I learned and how I plan to use that knowledge moving forward because I intend to absorb every bit of what they have to teach me while I am there. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I do not want to waste a second of it.
Thank you sincerely for your time.
