Hello friends, family, and strangers alike. I am starting this page in hopes of growing a community of support that goes far and wide for one of the most amazing families I know. Destinie (26) and I met at UW-River Falls in 2015 as a couple of young women embarking on a brand new journey of learning and growth. We spent our time over the next 4 years laughing, crying, making memories and learning so much along the way. It has been a blessing to call her one of my best friends for all these years since. What a privilege it has been to watch her fall in love and become the most incredible mom to the most amazing little girl. Des is one of those people that reminds you of sunshine, simply lighting up a room anywhere so goes, lighting up every life she enters. She has one of the biggest hearts I have ever encountered and she is the first to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. She listens without judgement and offers sound advice whenever needed. Destinie gives without expectation of anything in return. To all of you that read this I ask for your support in any capacity to help my amazing friend and her young family during one of the most difficult times anyone could face. Des was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of acute myeloid Leukemia. As anyone could imagine this diagnosis has turned her and her family's world upside down. She has had to sacrifice her small business in order to focus her time and energy on her fight, her healing, and her family. She will also have to spend extensive amounts of time in in-patient hospital care. If at all possible please help by donating (no amount is too small), sharing this page, and getting this in front of as many people as possible.
The following is from Des on her journey so far, unfortunately, this is only the beginning of what is to come:
"After an urgent care visit, I had to be immediately rushed to the emergency room. My test results had shown that my hemoglobin levels were at a 3 (a regular level would be 11, a level 7 could result in organ failure) every doctor told me that it was the lowest hemoglobin level they have ever seen. I was then diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia & was then sent by ambulance to regions hospital & on chemotherapy within 48 hours of my diagnosis.
Currently I am on day 5 of 7 of chemo, my white blood cells are going down along with my immune system, which is what the doctors want to kill cancerous cells in my body. As of today we are waiting for answers about the subtype of my cancer & how my body reacts to the chemo. It’ll be a long road, but I am thankful for my amazing support system."
Thank you in advance to anyone that is willing and able to donate, share and support Des and her family during this time. The appreciation truly cannot be expressed enough.
