On August 10, Colombia was struck by a devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake, the strongest earthquake to hit the country this century.
For me, this isn't simply a tragedy happening somewhere far away. Colombia is home. It is where I come from, where my roots are, and it will always be part of who I am. The earthquake caused widespread destruction across western Colombia, with Pereira among the communities hit especially hard. Homes and buildings were destroyed, families were displaced, and thousands of people were injured. More than 280 lives have already been lost, and hundreds of people remain missing.
By the grace of God, my family is safe, and I am incredibly grateful. But that relief quickly turned to heartbreak knowing that so many other families were not as fortunate. I knew I couldn't just watch from thousands of miles away and do nothing.
I'm raising funds and planning to travel personally to Colombia to help people in the affected communities. Donations will help provide food, clean water, clothing, hygiene products, essential supplies, temporary shelter, and other immediate assistance to families who need it most. I will personally cover my travel expenses so the money raised can be directed toward helping those affected by this tragedy.
