Hey family! As you all know, most of my young adult life I've been the wanderer/nomadic type, letting my intuition guide me to far away lands where I've experienced what feels like lifetimes. All these years, around 14 or so, I've been without a vehicle, trusting my feet and whatever transportation is available to me in whichever location I decide to hang my hat. As of now, I am quite firmly planted in Ecuador. I struggled for over a year to get my visa and now I can legally volunteer here to do audio recordings of indigenous tribes, their music and language. Although that part hasn't yet come to fruition, I’ve been working incredibly hard with my musical craft scoring documentary films and playing live when I can to save up for a reliable car to be mobile here.
As I live far outside of the main city Quito, on the side of an inactive volcano, you can imagine how difficult it might be to move around and get more involved in work and community here and in the greater region. I've been so carefree and confident without a vehicle these years but alas, I feel the time has come to take that next step toward responsibility and thus the freedom to move autonomously. I'm a bit on the fence about self-fundraisers, especially regarding all the truly struggling people who truly need help out in the world, yet I thought I'd take a chance and see what happens. If you feel called to donate to my next step in mobility here in Ecuador, then here's your chance! If not, truly not a problem and no explanation is required.
On a final note, things are indeed different here. It's much harder to take out a loan and cars are 3x the price in the States. That being said, I've done a deep dive and found some of the most reliable SUV's for value, safety, parts, and resale value (if and when ;). I will push for the loan option but may have to put down a sum for a down payment initially.
