Why Miss America?
Easy! The Miss America Organization has offered and continues to offer young women incredible opportunities for educational advancement and volunteerism. MAO and The Miss North Carolina Organization have provided me with a larger and more visible platform to support and highlight financially challenged young performers, just like me, with my Social Impact Initiative, Carolina Cares.
As a young competitive dancer my father became unemployed. Shortly after, it was clear that dance tuition had now become less important than the house payment and sacrifices had to be made. Luckily, I was able to continue my dance training on a different stage - Community Theatre. What I didn't realize was that the love and support from my theatre community would soon spark my desire to implement my SII: Carolina Cares; Supporting the Needs of Performing Arts Communities.
Organizations like The MAO & The MNCO have given me the platform to turn my story into an opportunity. As a titileholder, I am able to reach across socioeconomic backgrounds in order to guide young adults in the direction of scholarship organizations like Miss America.
Now, with the help of The MAO and The MNCO, I am on track to not only become the first college graduate in my family but to do so DEBT FREE.
Miss America is more than a crown and sash. She is a young woman, like me, who dares to dream BIG no matter the cost!
