Goal is $5,000 in order to include Eric's medical deductible of $2500 that has to be met again so late in the year due to the life event of not being able to return to his full-time job (now a dependent under my insurance), and then $2500 again in just a few months. One chemo infusion or MRI appt at Mayo Clinic will hit our high deductible plan immediately for the deductible to be due (good for the rest of the year for us, but bad for our budget due all at once!) We started this entire process with the best of the best (Mayo) and we want to continue with Mayo throughout, which is why we choose to go through our employer insurance instead of receiving this part of the care through the VA. Mayo is an in-network provider for my insurance, but not an in-network provider for these needs, currently.

Please help us get Eric a power lift recliner chair!

Eric is a survivor of brain cancer (Glioblastoma) and has had 2 brain surgeries, 2 rounds of chemo, and radiation with current infusion treatments every 3 weeks. His ability to walk for long distances, find the right words to say, and use his right hand and arm have been severely altered due to the tumor being from the left side of his brain (which impacts everything on the right side of your body). Despite all of the setbacks, this man is a WARRIOR and fights every day to get better! This chair is a huge symbol of independence for him because he wouldn't need me (his wife and full-time caregiver) to help him out of the recliner or to stand up.

He has been using a regular recliner that we got him a few months ago, but the handle on the right side is impossible for him to reach and maneuver to be able to lie down or sit up on his own. His right hand is unable to grasp anything tightly as of yet, he is working on this daily with his physical therapist. He is also working on building strength back in his right leg and foot, and this currently is too hard to push down on a manual recliner to assist with either motion.

Eric is a big tall guy (6' 5") and we would LOVE to help him get a chair that can LIFT his spirits (pun intended) for his birthday in November and Christmas in December. He spends a lot of time in his recliner as he is homebound with enough strength to walk across the room or to get into his wheelchair. Thank you for reading our fundraiser! If we get to goal we will post a picture or video of Eric standing on his own using his new chair.

Hello friends and family, it is with a heavy, heavy, heavy heart that I post this. My warrior of a husband passed away less than 2 weeks ago on the 10th, he was in hospice care at home and in no pain whatsoever. I was holding his hand and we were listening to his favorite songs and movie (Field of Dreams). Eric was unable to eat or drink the last week, but he was sleeping and in no pain. I miss him more than I can put into words, he is my entire universe.

We've been together for 24 years, so I am not sure where he begins and I end, or vice versa. But I am grateful that he can finally rest in eternal peace, and I can't wait to see him one day in heaven. I will keep strong for him and for our son.

Eric will have a celebration of life in May in his hometown in Wabasha, MN. He will also have a military burial ceremony in Little Falls following the celebration of life. I will update this with more info as soon as I have details for his service. Thank you everyone, please never forget Eric and how funny, optimistic and kind he was to everyone. He inspires us all to live life in the same wonderful way.

Dec 19th, 2022 update-

This is a really, really difficult post to make but I just wanted to share with family and friends Eric's latest status.  It is not the news that any of us want to hear but there's been a big change his doctors see in his latest scan. There is continued swelling and shifting occurring all over, 6mm shift from the midline and it is now impacting the right side and frontal lobe because there's nowhere for all of the swelling to go. We still take dexamethasone for swelling with an increased dose, but it is the only line of defense we've had since we cannot physically leave the house any longer for the infusion treatments. I've been through the ringer with his oncologist and although I am still fighting for him, this is a different fight. This is a fight to still keep Faith and Hope alive by putting Eric's needs first before his diagnosis. With his comfort and happiness I do believe that we will extend our time together more than we would if he was trying an experimental trial traveling to a hospital somewhere, which he is in no condition to do to begin with.

I've had to make the toughest decisions lately to move forward with hospice care. It does NOT mean what the word makes you think of, for the VA it means that we are focusing on Eric's comfort and quality of life as our number one priority now. Time is an unknown anymore, we cannot endure the hospital stays or MRIs, so we move forward with only Eric's happiness in mind. What can we do to bring comfort into his life (and therefore my own and our son's life and everyone else because everyone we know has been through the pain of this journey with us). I am accepting that now and will always be his biggest advocate for anything that can possibly be done to bring him happiness.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support!! We are forever grateful. I just want my husband to get better and get to enjoy the rest of his life, I daydream about growing old with him. He is only 43 years old... I'll never understand. Cancer is the cruelest disease.

Update for Eric 11/21/22  - Hello friends and family! Eric continues to enjoy his power lift chair almost every day, right now it is tough for him to make the transition sometimes. Sometimes, he needs to sleep a lot more than on other days and feels too weak to transfer from the bed to his transport wheelchair to get over to the recliner. I've been helping him with stretching and strengthening exercises he can do in bed, to get his core strong again. I know he will get there, it is just another setback that this incredible man has to fight and push through.

For his birthday next week/early Christmas present, I am looking for more items to make him comfortable and happy each day, items that the VA does not provide but I think are necessary. Back and neck massager to put over his chair or behind him in bed, an alternating air pad with an electric pump to prevent bed sores, a leg compression massager, therapy technology that is only available in retail, and many other such items. If you are able to still share this request on social media or via email, please don't hesitate! It all goes to fill in the gaps to help Eric adapt to all of the changes we keep facing each week, each month. Thank you so much for your time and your support.

Here is Eric in his new recliner! He didn't want me to post one of him going up or down because he's still trying to figure out how to adjust to that with his walker. But he was comfortable with doing this for now (below) and saying to everyone, "Thank you all so much. Thank you."  This new chair is so high that he barely has to squat to sit, even without the lift assisting! He loves it.

Also, here's what became of our original blue recliner and who has taken that one hostage:
