Hello everyone my name is Mandi. I am 33 years old and live in Charlotte, NC. I have an 11 year old son named Brayden, who is the most awesome kid in the entire world. Just the mere thought of him has made this whole process a little easier for me to bare... in early February I started experiencing chest pains, my body was completely swollen, and it was very hard for me to breathe. I decided that I needed to be seen by a medical professional and went to the local emergency room. Immediately, I was checked out by a doctor and was told that I wouldn't be leaving and I needed to be admitted for further testing. The next thing I remember is waking up in the ICU seven days later. I had tubes coming out everywhere. They told me that I had a blood infection, and there was fluid on my lungs and surrounding my heart. They wound up taking a whole liter off, from just 1 lung with a huge needle that went into my back. Slowly, they were able to drain more and more fluid over time off of the rest of my body (17 liters total). Two of my major organs were failing (heart and lungs). I wound up staying in the hospital for a little over a month... when I got out, I had lost my job and I'm now homeless, in and out of hotels that are very hard to afford. I was going to try and get into my own place with my tax money, but after I had filed, I received a letter from the hospital saying that they were going to garnish my wages to pay them. Now I can't seem to find a decent place to rent because of credit checks... I don't have any type of medical insurance, and now have debt collectors calling me everyday for my hospital bills that are well over 100,000 dollars. If you can find it in your hearts to help me, in any way you can, I would be so thankful. God bless.
