Kristy, her son, and their two dogs moved to Washington state in July of 2022. They transferred their jobs to Washington in preparation for the move so that they could have employment waiting for them upon their arrival. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned when they arrived. Kristy lost her job, and two days later she landed in the ICU for one week due to an ulcer that went undiagnosed. During that week, her son was laid off of work.
Kristy and her son attempted to start a GoFundMe to purchase an RV so that they would have a somewhat stable living condition until they could obtain employment again, but this plan fell through.
Since then, they have been primarily living in their car and staying in a nearby Motel 6 when they have the funds. With the summer months quickly approaching, they are in danger of being priced out of the hotels and motels in their area. Right now they are struggling to save the money to obtain a stable living environment due to issues with the car that they are living in, basic necessities, and food for two people.
In February 2023, Kristy started a job working 6 days per week until April 2023 when her hours were cut to less than 40 hours per week because business was slow.
In April 2023, Kristy's son was about to obtain a seasonal position, but that position has run its course and has ended. Her son have an interview set up with a security company, but the interview slot isn't until June 20, 2023.
They have tried many options to find housing including public housing assistance, Section 8/HUD, numerous requests for community help and nothing is panning out for them. They are being told to stay at shelters and wait it out. Public Housing Assistance/Grants has a waitlist for 3 years, and they need something sooner than that. They have been applying for low-income housing, but there have been difficulties finding housing that is 1. available and 2. allows dogs.
We are currently raising money to help them get access to a stable environment in which they aren't living for their next meal or trying to figure out where they're going to sleep the next night.
