# Help Pereira Recover: Emergency Relief After the Colombia Earthquake
On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, centered near San José del Palmar in Chocó. It was the strongest earthquake to hit the country in decades. The damage reached far beyond the epicenter — Pereira, my hometown, was hit hard. More than 60 people have died there, the terminal at Matecaña International Airport partially collapsed, and families across the city lost their homes.
Pereira is where I grew up. Watching this unfold from a distance has been devastating, and I know the coming weeks matter as much as the first hours — families need clean water, shelter, and support as recovery efforts continue.
I'm raising funds to get direct help to families affected by the earthquake. Funds will go toward:
Water — clean drinking water for displaced families
Shelter — temporary housing, tents, and basic supplies for those who lost their homes
Recovery — support for families rebuilding in the weeks ahead
