Oakley is our one-year-old Golden Retriever with a heart (and smile) as big as her personality. She’s spunky, playful, and loves everyone — her feline brothers and sisters, her human siblings, and anyone lucky enough to meet her. Oakley loves to share apples with her human siblings, play fetch until she can barely keep her eyes open, and curl up with her favorite toys for naps. She’s our sunshine and laughter rolled into one furry, goofy girl.
Recently, Oakley started having trouble eating, began vomiting, and experienced increasing episodes of bowel incontinence. After rushing her to the vet, we learned she had swallowed part of one of her toys — something that took us completely by surprise, as she’s never been a chewer. Her “hobbies” usually involve snuggling with her toys, not eating them.
Oakley is currently admitted as an inpatient, receiving IV fluids and antibiotics for severe dehydration. Over the next several hours, she’ll undergo a series of X-rays to see if the toy will move through her intestines or, with luck, pass on its own. If it doesn’t, the only options are emergency surgery — estimated to cost over $6,000 — or putting her down. We can’t imagine losing our sweet, smiling girl when she still has so much life left to live.
We’re asking for help to give Oakley a chance. Every donation will go directly toward her current and future veterinary care, and any remaining funds will be donated to the Animal Protective League (APL) to help other animals in need.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting Oakley. Your kindness means more than words — and we can’t wait to see her wagging tail and golden smile lighting up our home again.
