On October 13th our beloved Cammy went to get a yearly physical and, if needed, maintenance for the up coming winter circuit. I never imagined something so routine could turn into such a nightmare.
Cammy then developed unexplained lameness. Long story short he is now at UF Gainsville fighting for his life with a “suspected” bacterial bone infection after routine joint injections—injections that were later found to be used off label and contaminated. Now even worse their possibly thinking fungal bone infection and we’re waiting on a culture. What was supposed to be a simple, common procedure has become a long, painful, and heartbreaking journey for Bailey, myself and most importantly Cam.
The treatment is going to be aggressive, intense and ongoing, and watching Cam struggle with this pain has been devastating. The emotional and financial toll is HUGE, and it’s hard to put into words how stressful this is.
Cam is not just a horse he is a huge part of our family. He is Bailey’s best friend, her rock to lean on especially when her dad passed away and from a mom’s standpoint hes my daughter’s most trusted babysitter. He is everyone’s farm mascot and superstar.
We need healing prayers and hope!!
If your horse has developed unexplained lameness after routine joint injections you can pm me. However, do not walk, run to the closest equine hospital for a second opinion as your horse’s life may depend on it.
