Dear Family and Friends,
Much has happened since my great friend Colleen Aylward created a SpotFund donation page for Colette and myself. Some good, most - not so good.
A quick summary:
We have lost our home to foreclosure, it's been sold at auction, and the new owner, fully aware of our difficulty in finding accessible housing, chose to reject our rental offer and began eviction processing. An 11th hour appeal before our eviction court date netted a pricey 3-month lease through the end of July. Ongoing efforts to secure housing were unsuccessful. August was managed by a pricy Use-and-Occupancy agreement, along with allowing access to our home by contractors for planning and design measurements.
The owner doubled the amount needed to stay here for September, which I cannot meet, so the Execution-of-Ejection paperwork was filed 9/1/23. We have until 9/13/23 at best before being ejected. Our attorney has filed an Emergency Stay-of-Execution.
I had a significant injury, along with subsequent surgeries, which prohibited me from transferring Colette. She is now restricted to a hospital bed full-time, and we need to continue funding health-aides as an out-of-pocket expense at nearly $1K per week. We’ve spent $110K on health-aids and $20K on non-reimbursed medical supplies since my injury. Her condition also complicates our moving, in that she requires medical transport between sites. Some good news here - she has been approved for a State-funded program to assist in paying for roughly 50% of the health-aide coverage, but its actual implementation is tied up in paperwork snafu's.
We have initiated a contingency plan, to move to Norwalk and live with our long-time friend Barbara MacDonald (Peter MacDonald's widow). We are incredibly thankful to Barbara for her support.
So, this is where we are now, and why I am requesting your financial support.
The last four months of rental payments and the delay in the health-aid assistance payments have all but wiped me out financially. I estimate I need an additional $13.5K to cover moving, medical transport and health-aid coverage for the next month.
I realize this is a very big request, and that many of you reading this already donated so very generously to Colleens’ SpotFund page. That said, our need is critical, our timing urgent. Please consider donating what makes sense for your circumstance.
