Here in Hamilton, we know the power of the local community. For years, we've talked about building a community where we can live, work, and play. In connection with that idea, we aim to run local and support local. In our 11th year of the Hamilton Turkey Trot, we're thrilled to have, yet again, record numbers of people showing up to support the mission of YoungLives and now Capernaum, too, right here in Butler County. All of the race proceeds go to support these high school ministries that do so much to come alongside students in their unique challenges. This year, as a race team, we wanted to highlight a very special person who is running her own kind of race. If you haven't heard the name Katie Powers before, here are some things we want you to know.
- Katie is the co-founder of the Hamilton Turkey Trot
- She started the race back in 2014 from her own driveway in Highland Park and has been directing the race ever since
- She works alongside the race team ALL year long to put on this great event that's become a Hamilton tradition
- She's the wife to Mark and mom to three pretty incredible and energetic young kids
- She underwent brain surgery this past June to remove a tumor
- Her recovery has taken longer than anyone expected and she's had ongoing therapy to relearn how to walk.
She's working hard and still has a long road ahead of her. With medical bills, childcare costs, and a recent move to a single-level home that's easier to navigate, there's a great opportunity to step in and help provide support.
The race planning team and Meyer Brothers & Sons would like to invite you to POWER UP FOR KATIE by donating $25, $50 or more.
Meyer Brothers & Sons will match donations up to $5,000.
Let's join together in this season of giving and show the Powers family our love and support. The giving window will remain open starting race day all the way through Giving Tuesday, 11/27-12/2.
