All funds will help maximize relief efforts in the following areas:
WIRES AU WILDFIRE RELIEF: WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.) has been rescuing and caring for wildlife for over 30 years and is the largest wildlife rescue organization in Australia. WIRES currently has 3,000 volunteers in 28 NSW branches involved in the rescue and care of wildlife and we have a dedicated Rescue Office that operates 365 days a year assisting the community to help native animals in distress. Catastrophic fires, severe drought and extreme weather events have taken a tragic toll on native wildlife and worldwide we are now all facing the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. WIRES rescue team has been set up to work remotely so that they can continuously support the community and wildlife taking calls 7 days a week to provide wildlife rescue advice and assistance. Vets have been confirmed as an essential service, enabling them to operate and they are sharing up to date COVID-19 wildlife rescue advice for community members and volunteer rescuers, to ensure wildlife can be assisted safely during this crisis.
RED CROSS AU COVID-19 RESPONSE: For 106 years, Red Cross has stood with Australians through disasters, emergencies and the other challenges life throws at us. COVID-19 is no exception. The Red Cross is working with federal and state governments, thousands of volunteers across the country, and millions across the world to respond to the pandemic. The focus remains where it always has been: helping those left most vulnerable, and supporting all Australians to maintain their wellbeing and cope with disruption and uncertainty. To date, the Red Cross has supported more than 25,000 Australians with this response.
RED CROSS AU WILDFIRE RELIEF: The Red cross has supported people affected by 26 fires across 5 states and territories. More than 27,500 people have received support from 100 relief and recovery centers. The Register.Find.Reunite service, which reunifies people who have been separated in the bushfire emergency, has registered 44,800 people. In addition to these services, the Red Cross also provides emergency grants to help people cover their immediate needs.
