Charlotte Family Clinic is an unincorporated nonprofit 501c3 organization owned by Kelli Garza, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, and Jose Villa, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC.
The current 2023 population of Atascosa County is 50,202, 1,588 of which live in Charlotte. Recent statistics show a 1 to 2,131 ratio of primary care providers to Atascosa County residents. That is approximately 23 providers to care for the total population in Atascosa County.
Currently, there are no healthcare providers in Charlotte and no readily available public transportation. This lack of access makes it difficult for the citizens of Charlotte to receive much-needed healthcare services. Research shows that being seen by a healthcare provider can significantly reduce the risk of developing chronic health conditions. These conditions are often easily preventable through regularly scheduled healthcare visits and proper health education.
The mission of Charlotte Family Clinic is to make healthcare accessible and affordable. The clinic will provide primary health care services to patients of all ages, regardless of status. Payment for services can be arranged in the office to meet individuals' needs and abilities. Our main goal and focus is to help the community.
Services will include annual wellness exams, sick visits, chronic disease management, wellness and nutritional counseling, sports physicals, mental health, women's health, and DOT physicals. We provide all basic healthcare services any other physician-owned clinic provides, including in-house lab draws.
This project has been in the works since 2021, and full funding has not yet been secured to complete our clinic. The total approximate cost of our clinic is upwards of $150,00. This amount includes remodeling an existing building in Charlotte, equipment, and supplies needed to open. This does not include operating costs.
The fantastic people of Atascosa County have supported and donated to this cause financially, physically, and through many prayers. We have spoken to many state agencies to acquire assistance, though no grants can be used to build a rural clinic. All current state grant funding is solely available for rural clinics that are already in existence.
Every Texan deserves easy access to primary healthcare! This service is desperately needed in our area, and with your help, we can make this opportunity a reality for the people of Charlotte, Texas.
