Hello there! My name is Peyton Lawrence and I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself. I am currently a sophomore at Iowa Falls-Alden High School. My parents are Lance Lawrence and Denny and Summer Prochaska. I am very involved in school activities including Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Jazz Choir, Fall Play, Spring Musical, Basketball, Tennis, Speech, and Student Council. In addition to all of that, I am an 11-year Girl Scout member, a part of the River’s Edge Youth Group, and I have two part time jobs at Fareway and The Stumble Inn.
I have a unique opportunity coming up for summer 2024. I am going to Mongolia for 6 weeks. Why, may you ask? Well, I am going to volunteer in Ulaanbaatar to teach English to children, as well as assist in extracurricular activities such as music and drama. (Both of which are passions of mine.) Children learning English in Mongolia is important for their future educational and professional goals. English lessons can be costly, and I am looking to provide as much help as I can to get these kids started on the right track!
At the conclusion of my teaching project, I also have the opportunity to go and live for a few weeks with a nomad family. There, I will really be able to dive into the nomadic lifestyle. I will be living in a ger, which is a traditional Mongolian hut. I will be involved with daily activities such as milking cows, herding goats and yaks, fetching water from a well, as well as continuing to teach English to the families I am staying with. Hopefully I will be able to pick up some Mongolian words as well!
I am asking for your support in this project. My goal is to raise $10,000. As a volunteer, I am paying $4670 for my room and board for the 6 weeks I will be abroad. I also have flights and travel expenses to pay for. In addition to these expenses, I would like to raise some money to purchase books and educational supplies to give to the children.
