My name is Quincy Harris. I am a bright 25 yr old young adult from Nashville Tennessee. My goals are to become an actor, model, and financially stable. Last year I took on the role of paying for my late father's funeral in December of 2024. It was 5000 dollars that I had saved from working at a Tapas restaurant in the Gulch of Nashville. I honestly didn't want to spend it but that's my dad. Life really put him in a tough situation, but he kept going. He lived in a Holiday Inn for 2 years before he got admitted to the hospital. The year before he passed, he was fired from Vanderbilt Medical Center after dedicating 27 years of his life to being a janitorial supervisor.
They fired him because a white lady stated that he touched her inappropriately. If you know Vanderbilt Medical Center, you know they take great care of their team members family when they pass away and have great benefits. He was banking on leaving his children with a base to live a better life but all of that was taken away from him. He fought effortlessly to get my 2 sisters and I out of foster care after him and my mom divorced in 2004. I truly loved my mother, but Crack cocaine had claimed her life well before she passed in 2008 the night before easter. Even still he wanted to take care of his kids. With the help of his sisters my dad still took care of us even after she passed and got a house where the neighborhood wasn't the best but all 3 of us still managed to graduate high school. I graduated with an international baccalaureate diploma, in the top 10% of my graduating class and 2 college credits. I went to college at Tennessee State University, for business and a minor in psychology but I didn't graduate. I love school but I couldn't afford it. Even still My dad was proud of me going.
One night in august of 2024 he had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Thank God my cousin called him that night and sent an ambulance then she called me to notify me. I waited in the hospital @ Skyline Medical Center alone for 2 hours before they transferred him to another hospital with better equipment for open heart surgery.
They flight lifted him to Saint Thomas Hospital and I followed in an uber. I waited 3 more hours to hear from the doctor. The Doctor's name was Doctor Goodman. Doctor Goodman approached me and stated my dad had 3 stints put in his heart and one part of his heart was shut down completely. I relayed the information to my family members that night and went to see him in his room. I honestly still don't know how I didn't break down after seeing my dad like that. Maybe it's because he greeted me with a smile that night and told me his nurse was hot. Me and my sister rotated being with him until our aunties got involved. We comforted him the best we could for as long as we could.
On his death bed in a 1 on 1 conversation my dad told me he really wanted a son named Quincy. He really loved the name Quincy. It was the name of his favorite Buffet Restaurant that he went to in his 20's. He had two sons before me that died of crib death. They were both named Quincy. After his second son passed he said he was mad at God and that the pain was so unbearable that he attempted to take his life the day his second son passed. He felt God was displeased with him, but he tried again and again to have a son until I was born. When he told me this, I shed a few tears and for first time I felt my dad's heart not as his son but as a man. Knowing all of this I'd be damned if his 3rd son didn't honor his father's burial wishes. So, I did with no regrets.
I was going to use the 5000 dollars to buy a vehicle, but my dad said honor your mother and father and your days on the earth shall be long. So, I did and honestly, I'm happy my dad raised me the best he could. I'm happy I paid for his funeral; He deserved a proper burial.
I am a writer by trade and have always excelled in school for speaking, poetry and writing. I hope this chapter from my life can impact the lives of others to not quit and to keep grinding for better. My lease ended in May of 2025 and my uncle who I kept in contact with offered me a room to stay in Katy, Texas. I've been here for 6 months and have tried selling life insurance & wealth building products. I haven't had had much success in it but working for my uncle's finance company has shown me that managing money and treating it properly will help you tremendously in life.
My biggest moral in life is helping others. In order to help others I have to first help myself but who said I had to do it alone? I want to be fully independent so that I can have a truck to get to and from work, help others with moving furniture, hauling off junk, and most importantly go to church to give God thanks. In Texas you need a vehicle to move around because everything is so far away compared to Nashville where everything is so close together. I plan on moving to back to Nashville once I get on my feet, to take acting & writing classes, play the guitar, move into a townhome/apartment, start my own business online selling handheld showerheads with scented filters and being helping the homeless, and sharing my story with a local non-profit organization. If you are reading this and feel it in your heart this Christmas season to help me reach my goals so that I can bless others in the future I will now list a few ways for you to do so.

I am also not opposed to having someone hire me to work for their company or be their secretary. I can do just about anything as long as I am trained properly, have reliable vehicle for transportation, and time to learn the material so that I can Execute it properly.
I pondered for months on whether or not I should do this but after praying about it to God I heard a voice say, "Let people hear your story and I will do the rest."
