Browse social media and you’re bound to see video after video of people randomly giving money out of the “kindness of their hearts”. It’s sweet however I often wonder would these people be doing the same thing if the cameras weren’t rolling?
Drive thru chains of people paying for the person behind them. It sounds amazing but is it really? You were there to spend money after-all!
What if I asked you for $1?! Without a reason. Without a sad, sappy story about how imperfect my life has been or how I’m just down on my luck and in need of a break. Without a face to associate that $1 to! But most importantly and notably - without the publicity and praise!
Would you donate $1 if you had no idea who it was going to or what it would be used for?
Maybe it’s to feed my children or to provide Christmas gifts. Perhaps it’s to pay my bills or to cushion my savings account! Support a drug habit?!
