Greetings, dear friends and kind souls,

My name is Chelsey Blackwell, I am a loving wife, mother of two beautiful children, and I come to you with a heart heavy with hope and hands open for help. This is our family's journey through a storm we never saw coming.

Just over two years ago, I discovered what seemed like an innocuous sunspot beside my temple. It was small, unassuming, and like many, we brushed it aside. But as the days passed, this tiny mark began to cast a long shadow over our lives, growing rapidly into a noticeable blemish that we could no longer ignore.

With a sense of urgency, we sought medical advice, only to be met with dismissive reassurances. Yet, my intuition whispered a dire warning, prompting us to push for further tests. That decision unveiled a truth that would forever alter our path—it was melanoma, the fiercest of foes in the realm of skin cancer.

The world around us turned into a whirlwind of hospital visits and surgical plans. On November 21st, 2022, I bravely faced surgery, believing it to be a brief detour back to normalcy. However, fate had penned a different script. The surgeons found more than they bargained for, and what was meant to be a simple procedure became a battle against an unseen enemy lurking beneath the surface.

Our hopes were dashed when, in September 2023, a swollen lymph node signaled a resurgence of the cancer. The PET scan results were a chilling reminder of the battle we faced, lighting up with the ferocity of an untamed fire. The subsequent surgery was a grueling ordeal, leaving me with 15 of 24 lymph nodes afflicted by the relentless spread of melanoma.

Now, as we stand on the precipice of a new year, our journey takes a daunting turn. I faced a rigorous regimen of immunotherapy and radiation, a testament to my unwavering spirit and determination to reclaim the life cancer has tried to steal from me.

Still, the cancer has grown and spread at a velocity that is unfathomable. Almost every bone in my body has been taken over by this ugly disease, but we have not lost our faith.

We once believed we could weather this storm alone, but the reality of missed work, mounting bills, and the sheer magnitude of this fight have humbled us. We are reaching out to you, our community, our extended family, for support.

Your donations will be a lifeline, helping to cover the costs of my prescriptions, trips to Houston to see my melanoma specialist at MD Anderson, medical bills, nourishment, and the countless necessities that keep a family afloat in such turbulent times. If you find it in your heart to contribute, know that your generosity will touch our lives in ways words can never express.

But even if you cannot donate, your prayers and positive thoughts are treasures in their own right, offering us strength and solace as we navigate these uncharted waters.

We promise to keep you updated on our journey, sharing both the triumphs and trials that lie ahead. From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for taking the time to hear my story and for the outpouring of love and support that has been our beacon of hope.

With gratitude and love,

The Blackwell Family

Clinical Trial here we goπŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

I’m heading back to MD Anderson on the 21st to start my clinical trial that will last nearly 3 months out of state. This is a big step forward in my fight, and I’m hopeful—but it comes with a lot of extra costs. My Husband will be missing quite a bit of work to get me down there and stay with me for hopefully the first two weeks 🀞🏻

I’ll need help covering gas, hotel stays, meals, and other expenses while I’m away. If you’re able to donate or share my fundraiser, it would truly mean so much.

Also, if anyone wants to bring my husband and kids a homemade meal occasionally that would help so much as well.

Thank you for walking with me, praying for me, and lifting me up. I don’t ask for help often—but right now, I need my village. ❀️

Big update here. The tumor DNA in my bloodstream jumped up from a 6 point something to 65.07 in a months time. That's the highest it has ever been, even when I was at my worst last year.

My most recent PET scan shows the cancer has spread to my liver.

I got to speak with my Melanoma specialist Dr. Glitza. She wanted me to do TIL therapy, but the lesions in my liver are too deep and small for harvest, so now she is wanting me to partake in a new clinical trial.

I will be the first Melanoma patient in the world to do this trial.

Dr. Glitza went over all of my questions with me. Her and Dr. Zito both think this clinical trial is the next best thing in cancer treatment.

In other cancers like Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma, just to name a few, there's been anywhere from a 40%-90% success rate.

In lymphoma it showed 15 out of 19 patients went into remission. I like those odds.

She also explained why she is recommending this clinical trial vs the latter and I completely understand her reasoning.
Now that the cancer made it to my liver she feels it is just the tip of the iceberg and feels this is the best opportunity we have to get ahead of it all.

Instead of just focusing on my liver she wants to target my whole body, so it doesn't pop up anywhere else. Like Dr. Zito said, we don't want to play a game of whack-a-mole.

Being the first Melanoma patient in the world to do this trial is a little scary, but just the research they will learn from me may save so many lives in the future and I think that's pretty awesome to be able to be a part of that. Plus, I can back out at any time and that makes me feel a lot better about it.

We go to Houston on the 16th and we'll discuss all of this even further. Figure out what the back up plan with be if I do the clinical trial and it doesn't work, but IT WILL!

Please pray that my health insurance will approve whatever it is they need to approve for the trial πŸ™πŸ»

Tumor DNA is back in my bloodstream.

It's been negative for a year, but this time it's positive.

I'm taking that as my last round of radiation in my left humerus didn't work.

Dr. Zito has ordered a STAT PET scan that is scheduled for May 14th.

I immediately sent the results to Dr. Glitza at MD Anderson and she requested a brain MRI as well as the PET scan as I am not due back to see her until mid June.

We are hopeful that the cancer is still localized to my left arm and no other spreading.

I will update once both doctors have went over results from the scans and we come up with our next course of action.

Please send all the positive thoughts, vibes, and prayers my way, I really need them πŸ™πŸ»

Just popping in for those who don't follow me on Facebook!

I finished my 22 rounds of radiation on my left humerus Thursday, the 27th of February.

Next is MD Anderson on the 17th and 18th of March for my repeat scans.

Please send all of the prayers and positive vibes you can that my scans show no further reoccurrence or spreading, and that radiation took care of the spot that came back.

As always we truly appreciate you following my melanoma journey. Please continue to share this whether you can donate or not 🫢🏼

Just stopping in to update everyone.

I was in remission for 6 wonderful months, but unfortunately at my follow up at MD Anderson on Monday, I learned I am no longer in remission. The cancer has returned.

I am devastated, but trying my best to stay positive that we caught it early. My oncologist believes radiation should take care of it. It's a small spot in my left humerus that has resurfaced.

Radiation comes with a lot of cons, it made me extremely sick the first time, but I am strapped in and ready to fight.

Your continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

If you're unable to donate, please share πŸ™πŸ»
