People leaving performances of the solo stage adaptation of "Paul for Pete" have been more than encouraging ("Epic," "Masterful," "A story for our times . . ." "Serious -- and just silly enough."), but the most consistent response has been, "We can get involved. We should get involved." If that's the message that sticks, then I say - given this November's more than consequential election - "Job well done." I am very happy to share my journey from despair to hope . . . from political dabbler to full campaign immersion, and to a hell of a lot more. Directing; Shakespeare; travels in America; Jim and me.
But it's one thing to drive across town to the Oregon Cabaret Theatre or to load up the Outback, fill the tank, and road trip it to San Luis Obispo (SLO REP). Quite another to accept invitations to bring "P4P" to Winona (MN, July), Cedar City (UT, August), New York City (September 23), and Washington, DC (TBA). Expenses add up quickly: venue rental, transportation, lodging, shipping, promotion, printing, staff support, catering . . .
I'm hoping you can help. I've set July 15th as the deadline to raise $12,000 to fund upcoming performances. Ambitious, I know -- but I'm hopeful during these pins-and-needles, history-making days and weeks, I'll find a village of support. "Paul for Pete" has been two years in the making (and the memoir from which it's adapted, three years before that). My story seems to have struck a chord and made a difference. Again: job well done. I'm ready to share "Paul for Pete" with a larger audience. Thank you for helping me do just that!
