Lila was born with a complex congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) combined with other complications. From the very first hours of her life, she has been a warrior. Doctors told her parents she might not survive the night, but Lila had other plans. She fought through her first open-heart surgery at just 4 days old, then a second one at 6 months. She spent many months of her babyhood in the NICU and CICU, connected to machines that helped her tiny heart keep beating.

Despite everything, Lila grew into a joyful, determined little girl. She learned to walk while dragging an oxygen tank behind her like it was her personal sidekick. She dances in hospital hallways, draws colorful pictures for the nurses, and gives the best hugs even when she’s exhausted. She calls the monitors “beep-beep machines” and talks to them like they’re her friends. “You’re doing great today!” she sometimes tells her own heart.

Over the years she has faced countless hospital stays, infections, scary procedures, and moments when her little body grew tired from working so hard. But Lila never stopped being Lila. She celebrated every milestone — her first steps, her first words, her first time eating ice cream after a long stay. She has an incredible big heart (in every sense) and an even bigger personality.

Now, Lila Rose needs one more major surgery — a crucial step in her journey toward a stronger heart. The doctors say this procedure is very important for her long-term health and to help her run, play, and grow without her heart getting so tired. Her family is by her side every moment, holding her hand, reading her stories, and reminding her how incredibly brave she is.
