As many of you know, my mom, Melissa Arrington, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in 2021. Since then, her journey has been anything but simple. Along with battling cancer, she has faced ongoing challenges finding doctors who fully understand how her treatments impact her existing heart conditions.

Over the past few years, she has been in and out of the hospital, with many of her heart complications likely linked to the treatments meant to fight her cancer. It has been a difficult road, but we are holding onto hope.

She has now been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Newnan, Georgia, to receive care at City of Hope. There, she will see a specialist who not only has experience with her specific type of leukemia but is also committed to working alongside other doctors to ensure all of her medical conditions are carefully considered in her treatment plan.

This opportunity brings us so much hope, but it also comes with financial challenges. Travel expenses, lodging, and medical costs not covered by insurance quickly add up. Because she is on Medicare, the assistance available to her is limited.

We are asking for help to ease this burden so she can focus on what matters most—her health and healing. Whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping her in your prayers, every bit of support means more than we can express.

Thank you for standing with our family during this time. ❤️

It has been a while since we’ve shared an update on my mom’s journey, and we are so grateful for everyone who has continued to pray, check in, and support our family.

The past several months have been filled with challenges beyond Mom’s health. After being displaced for six months following the house fire, my parents have finally been able to move back home. While we’re incredibly thankful for that blessing, the road has still been anything but easy.

Mom continues to battle daily pain as we prepare for her next trip to City of Hope. This upcoming visit is an important one—they’ll be comparing her current numbers to the baselines established during her last appointment so they can determine the best treatment plan moving forward.

As if that wasn’t enough, Mike has now learned he will need shoulder surgery due to bone spurs, a torn labrum, and degeneration in his rotator cuff. His recovery will mean a significant loss of income at a time when medical expenses and travel costs continue to grow.

We’re asking for your prayers more than ever—for wisdom for the doctors, healing for both Mom and Mike, peace during this uncertain season, and God’s provision for every need. If you feel led to support them financially, every donation, no matter the size, helps ease the burden and allows them to focus on what matters most: healing.

Thank you for loving our family so well. We have seen God’s faithfulness through every step of this journey, and we trust He will continue to carry us through the days ahead. ❤️

✨ Fundraiser Update ✨

We have officially wrapped up Mom’s first visit to City of Hope and what an emotional, encouraging, overwhelming couple of days it has been.

Tuesday began with an appointment with a naturopathic doctor, Edra — or as Mike jokingly called her, “a hippie.” 😅 But honestly, she spoke Mom’s language perfectly, and Mom left that appointment feeling hopeful and excited about the recommendations and holistic support being added alongside her medical care.

The afternoon ended with her CML specialist, Dr. Popplewell. They spent time reviewing previous test results, her current treatment plan, symptoms, and next steps moving forward. One of the biggest discussions was the possibility of Mom participating in a clinical trial for a medication that may be a better fit for her specific situation. While we still have many questions, we are thankful to finally feel like a team is truly listening and digging deeper.

The next step includes two upcoming telephone consults before they determine when she will need to travel back to Atlanta again. This journey is just beginning, but we are thankful for every prayer, message, donation, and share along the way. ❤️

We also want to be transparent — when we originally set the fundraiser goal, we did not fully account for the loss of Mike’s income during these trips and appointments. Because of your generosity so far, the donations from this first round were able to completely cover:
✔️ Hotel stays
✔️ Gas/travel expenses
✔️ Food
✔️ Co-pays
✔️ Bills impacted by Mike missing work

That support has been an absolute blessing to our family.

Please continue praying, donating if you’re able, and most importantly sharing her story. We know there are still many appointments, treatments, and trips ahead, but we are trusting God every step of the way. 🙏❤️

Here’s a heartfelt fundraiser update you can post:

Update on Mom’s First Day at City of Hope 💛

Yesterday was a long but very encouraging first day at City of Hope. They arrived early and got checked in, and Mom said right away how beautiful and peaceful the campus felt.

Her first appointment was with Jessica Isaac in Internal Medicine. After reviewing Mom’s medical history, current symptoms, and concerns, she shared that this trip was absolutely worth making and that this will likely be the first of many visits as they continue building her care plan. Hearing that validation meant so much to our family.

Throughout the day, Mom completed labs, met with a nutritionist, and also met with Behavioral Health as part of City of Hope’s integrative care approach. The nutritionist is helping monitor her appetite and nausea concerns and suggested small nutritional changes to help keep her strength up during this process.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing how much compassion and faith surrounded them everywhere they went. From hearing “Have a blessed day” throughout the halls to a waitress praying over Mom and hugging her the night before, it has been such a comfort to feel wrapped in love, kindness, and prayer during such a difficult season.

Mom also met with Diane in Behavioral Health, who focused on helping her process the emotional side of everything happening. She truly listened, validated Mom’s fears and emotions, and explained how City of Hope cares for the mind, body, and spirit together — something that has already made such a difference.

Most importantly, after this first full day, our family truly feels like this is where Mom needs to be. Today she will finish testing and meet with the CML Specialist, who will review all findings and begin determining a treatment plan moving forward.

Please continue praying for:
✨ Clear answers and direction
✨ Strength and comfort for Mom
✨ Wisdom for her medical team
✨ Safe travels and peace through every step ahead

Thank you all so much for the prayers, donations, messages, and support. We feel every bit of it. 💛

Update on Mom 💛

They have officially made it to Newnan and are getting settled in at WoodSpring Suites! After the drive, they went to grab something to eat because the traveling made Mom super nauseous. We are hoping she can get some good rest tonight before tomorrow’s appointments.

Her first appointment at City of Hope is tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM. This is such a big first step in getting answers and starting a treatment plan, and we are so thankful for everyone continuing to pray, donate, share, and support our family through all of this.

Please continue praying specifically for:
✨ Safe travels back and forth
✨ Relief from nausea and discomfort
✨ Peace and strength for Mom
✨ Wisdom and guidance for the doctors

We are taking this one step at a time and trusting God through every part of this journey. Thank you all for loving our family so well. 💛

Fundraiser Update 💛

We have made a  big step forward! We completed the nurse consultation call with City of Hope and went over medical records, what to expect during this first visit, and even reserved our hotel for the trip.

This first visit on Monday & Tuesday will focus on running tests, seeing exactly where everything stands, and addressing any immediate concerns. They are setting Mom up with a full team that includes a CML specialist, a naturopath, and a nutritionist. One thing that really stood out to us is that they truly believe in combining traditional treatments with holistic approaches — which definitely makes this hippie happy! 🌿✨

They also let us know that if ongoing cardiac care is needed, they have cardiologists there who can become part of her care team as well.

The biggest takeaway from today: this is NOT a one-and-done visit. This is just the beginning of getting her the specialized care she truly needs.

We will travel to Newnan Sunday afternoon and begin the process first thing Monday morning. We’ll return home Tuesday evening.

We are feeling hopeful, nervous, thankful, and overwhelmed all at once — but mostly grateful for everyone continuing to pray, donate, share, and support our family through this journey. Every bit of support is helping make this possible, and we cannot thank you enough. 💛
