Kholoud Hammad is a great young artist living in Gaza with her family. Her brother Ahmed was severely injured by shrapnel from an explosion, leaving him unable to move or feel the lower part of his body. Since there was no longer a place for him in the few remaining hospitals, over the past months we raised support for some basic medical necessities and living expenses.
But there is greater and greater urgency. There is no ceasefire in Gaza and nowhere is safe. Food and medicine cost a fortune, when it can even be found. The family has been displaced many times but now have a rental that costs $1500 a month. It is imperative they maintain this rental as it would be difficult for Ahmed to survive moving to a tent. At the same time, despite all their efforts, Ahmed has not been granted a medical evacuation, yet there is still a possibility for treatment but it would be very expensive.
US artist Tabitha Arnold recently interviewed Kholoud about the details of Ahmed and her family’s situation. “I spend my days hoping that something will change the next day. Since my brother was injured, a large part of our lives has revolved around caring for him, and searching for a way to get him out of Gaza so he can receive the surgery he needs… People can help by donating to this campaign to help us raise the $30,000 needed for his treatment outside Gaza.” You can read the full interview here: https://tabithaarnold.substack.com/p/d4d7dfa7-839e-4960-a54c-112e22201206
Kholoud remains resolute in spirit and deed, and continues to work on her art as she can. She was recently highlighted in the extraordinary book Gaza: Archiving the Present, and our collaborative project, Imperial Abhorrences / For Palestine, was recently published and is available here:

As Pulitzer Prize winning Gazan poet Mosab Abu Toha wrote, in an endorsement for the book: "While enduring a live-streamed genocide alongside her family in Gaza, Kholoud Hammad continued to create art, an art that holds the beauty of life against the machinery of annihilation and refuses to surrender humanity to terror or silence."
