I am managing this campaign of support on behalf of Kholoud Hammad, an extraordinary young artist in Gaza, and her family.
Since the last posting, there has been a family medical emergency entailing the need for immediate funds. One family member has been severely injured and can no longer be accommodated in hospital due to the dire situation of healthcare facilities in Gaza. The family needs to get a hospital bed, as well as some other equipment, to ensure stability until there is a possibility for medical evacuation.
While some conditions are changing on the ground, most basic structures (hospitals, clinics, schools, housing, agricultural land), have been destroyed or severely damaged. There is little or no usable infrastructure, and basic humanitarian supplies, including water, shelter, food, medicine, and fuel, are not yet coming at nearly the rate needed.
Kholoud remains resolute in spirit and deed, and continues to work as she can. She was recently highlighted in the extraordinary book Gaza: Archiving the Present, and the collaborative project we have embarked on, Imperial Abhorrences / For Palestine, should be going to the printer by the end of January.
As Mosab Abu Toha wrote, in an endorsement for the book:
"While enduring a live-streamed genocide alongside her family in Gaza, Kholoud Hammad continued to create art, an art that holds the beauty of life against the machinery of annihilation and refuses to surrender humanity to terror or silence."
Every little bit helps, please consider donating.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
THIS IS A NEW MESSAGE FROM Kholoud:
Hi everyone, this is the link to help my family here in Gaza and to support my brother, who really needs your help. If anyone can help him travel to get urgent treatment, please contact me on my Instagram@kholoud7h
Unfortunately, he has a spinal injury and has lost sensation in the lower half of his body. Here, we don’t have MRI images or the equipment needed for complex surgeries like his.
So if you can help, please reach out immediately, and I’ll send you the medical reports and X-ray images that we have here.
And if you can’t, please donate and share the link, it could help him get the treatment he needs.
Your support will make a real difference for my family.
