A few weeks ago, my life in Woodruff was turned upside down by an unexpected argument with my boyfriend that left me with a broken elbow. It's incredible how quickly everything can change. With my arm in a sling I'm unable to work and will be out for over two months. Because I haven't yet reached 90 days with my company, there's no FMLA or short-term disability coverage to rely on, and I have no insurance. Navigating the frustration and uncertainty of covering basic expenses while healing feels overwhelming.
Everyday tasks like cooking or even just getting dressed have become difficult, and it’s hard not to feel anxious about the future. My workplace, unfortunately, can't accommodate my medical restrictions, so each day presents a new challenge. I miss the fulfillment that work brings, and the days at home seem long and daunting.
Used to being independent, asking for help doesn't come naturally to me, but this injury has taught me about vulnerability and resilience. It’s been humbling and surprisingly healing to share my story, even if just through this fundraiser. The community in Woodruff has always felt close-knit, and it’s comforting to know that people care enough to listen and help.
