Wyatts story

Wyatt was born with HLHS a congenital heart defect the required many surgeries to keep him alive. He recievied 2 of the 3 surgeries to fix the HLHS but got sick and had complications making him ineligible for the final surgery. He then required a heart transplant he received his heart June 4th, 2014 at the age of 3. He is now 12 and is in stage 4 kidney failure he was recently relisted on the transplant list. We are hopfull he will receive a kidney soon!

While we are in the waiting period for this transplant we are trying to prepare for this big transition. After the transplant Wyatt will need to stay in Seattle for 3 months to closely monitor his recovery and possible rejection. He has a virus called BK that could be potentially dangerous for his new kidney. We also worry about this surgery complicating his CRPS which is a rare pain disorder that he has been managing with minor relief.

Our hope with this is to possibly raise enough to allow the parents to be able to be with Wyatt and not have to worry about missing work and focus on getting Wyatt as healthy as possible.

Anything raised is going to paying medical needs, food and potentially any bills needed from missing work to support Wyatt.

This is going to be a very stresseful time for our family figuring out how to make everything work and anything from this will help lessen that stress.

Wyatt Update 1/24/24 @2:00pm

Wyatt has been doing. He is on antibiotics that he started yesterday because he had a start of infection at one of incision sites.

Yesterday we went to Dream Drives for Kids. It's non profit and they create one-of-a-kind experiences for children undergoing treatment for a wide range of childhood illnesses in across the Pacific Northwest. It's all free. Its a shop of cars. The Seattle location treated us to a tour of the shop seeing so many different cars and learning about them, then we got a free lunch at their restaurant and then we got to get gifts out of their gift shop. It was a lot of fun.

Update 1/31 @12:15pm

Well no procedure done today to remove stent or pd cath.

Wyatt is back inpatient in the ICU. On Monday Wyatt woke up with increased belly being more bloated and was very uncomfortable. We had appointments today and brought it up to the team and they thought fluid in the belly and we could drain that via Pd cath. Well that was unsuccessful because he hadn't use it for 3 weeks there was a lot fibrin blocking. So no drain. Come to ER if it gets worse.

Well he wakes up Tueaday morining in actually pain like 8/10. So we head straight to the ER. Did ultrasound, labs and xray. Well he got Pneumatosis again. He last had this end of year 2022. Treatment which is really hard is NPO for at least 7 days. Of course he was pissed and today has been hard because he really wants to drink. Good thing is he won't need surgery. We caught it soon enough.

Kidney is still looking good even through all this. On antibiotics again. So let bowel rest and heal.

Update 1/26 @2:15pm

Wyatt is doing good. His DSA are staying negative which means no rejection. We check twice a week. His heart is also doing good during all this. It's a balance game now to keep the kidney and heart healthy and happy at the same time.

He's still doing bloodwork and clinic twice a week.

On 1/31 Wyatt will be getting his ureteral stent removed which is a small plastic tube placed inside the ureter to help urine (pee) pass from a kidney into the bladder. We will also be removing the PD catheter at the same time.

We're exicited for Megan and the kids to come visit this weekend. Wyatt and I haven't seen them since 1/5.
