Sophie was my first “rescue dog.” I knew from the moment I saw her in the cage at Petsmart that I needed to take her home and love her. I was unaware of the reputation of her breed, but she turned out to be the sweetest, most polite girl ever! She got along great with my Pom, Ziggy, and after that, she has never met a stranger. My passion to rescue senior dogs has grown, and it brings so joy into my life. My vision is to start a senior dog rescue where they can live out their last years in a warm and loving environment with about 10 - 15 other dogs. The need is great as I am seeing more and more older dogs being taken or dumped at the humane society. If I could, I would rescue them all! My goal is to start a nonprofit where I can partner with businesses and donors to gain support and grow. I currently have 5 dogs in my home which is the max I can have in a single family home. I just adopted 11 year old Nora in August after fostering her. She was dumped at the rescue on July 4th night and left in their playground. I am also fostering Molly ( 14 years old ) and her son Beau ( 12 years old ). Their owners had to go to a memory care unit. And, of course, I have my two little dogs who are ages 10 and 8. I have had to go to work part time for personal reasons, and senior dogs can be costly. They need checkups, medications, food, and 2 have to wear diapers in the house. Nora needs an echocardiogram bc the stress on her heart is twice what it should be. That can cost up to $900. I am also paying someone to help me walk the dogs daily. Walking is one of the dogs’ greatest pleasures outside of treats!!
These dogs depend on me to show up for them, and I will continue to do this with hopes of growing into my own senior sanctuary. A rescue or kennel is no place for these innocent sweet doggies to spend their days and nights.
I am asking anyone who believes in my cause to donate any amount which will all go towards the care of the dogs. I need partners to help. If you can’t donate, maybe you know someone who can AND pray for the dogs and my endeavor. I cherish it all with much gratitude in my heart. God bless! ♥️
