My name is Mark Abbott, I am a 42 year old Iraq Veteran Marine, a Lineman by trade outside of Philadelphia, Pa. I am the husband, nephew and cousin of families directly impacted by the July 4th flood waters in Texas, Hill Country.
i have decided to take a couple days off of work and head down to the impacted area in hopes of helping with the results of the catastrophic flooding.
I am hoping that my willingness to go serve, do the work and help fellow Americans in their time of need will encourage and provide people from the Philadelphia area a way to get involved and help in a real way.
I have been out of the Marine Corps since 2010. In that time I spent almost 10 years working with a local non-profit to help veterans transition back into the civilian world and aid families in their time of loss from Veteran suicide. I have been a lineman for almost 11 years and serving people in their time of need has and will always be super important to me.
In my opinion, service to others is what makes a person great. I want to lead by example and go help.
*I had originally planned on going for a month, but that is logistically and financially impossible and irresponsible of me. I will be leaving Thursday morning and returning Sunday night. I will be paying my own way and will not miss any pay from work. So the donations will either be returned or given to Kerrville Volunteer Fire Department.*
thank you for considering helping and your time. Please share.
