Hi everyone!

My name is Tessa Mauro and I love our precious Vets. I have several family members that fought for this country, including my Grandpa Gerald, who I am writing a book about, using his letters and journals he wrote during World War II, and my Grandpa Ernie, who served in WWII as a Medic, and who will turn 102 in a few months!

I'm the person who, when I see a Vet, I will proudly walk up to them and thank them for their service. At times even seeing them at a restaurant and buying their meal.

A few days after Christmas in 2025, I went to visit our precious Veterans in Walsenburg, Colorado - with me were several scarves that I had made years earlier - and for years they sat there, not being used, and mind you each scarf took me several hours to knit. I knew they had to be appreciated by someone, and so one cold day as 2025 was coming to an end, I went and gave out scarves. The smiles on these precious faces made me so incredibly happy. I could not have been more delighted. You could tell it meant a lot to them, and the excitement on their faces as they chose which scarf they wanted, and then putting that scarf on.

That day I got to meet some pretty incredible men and women who fought for this country in several wars - including the Korean War and the Second World War. Nurses, Medics, Soldiers etc.

It made me want to do more. Knit more. So I bought a bunch of yarn and armed with my knitting needles, I started knitting, on average, it takes about 3 hours to make a scarf (for me anyways). I want to keep doing this, but I need help. When you donate, it goes to my knitting materials, yarn is not cheap, and I can certainly use any help! No donation is too small! And when you donate I will add your name (and donation amount if you would like) to a sheet that will be handed out to the vets.

Right now, I have over twenty scarves made and ready to be handed out. Looking forward for you joining me in this journey of providing these handmade scarves - and you better believe each one was made with love - and a guaranteed smile on these ever so precious Vets faces!
