This funding will go to the setting the foundation for my production company, ULTRAMODERN, and its first produced film, Black to the Future. Black to the Future is an all encompassing documentary about what the future of Black people should be, can be, and might be in reality. It will ask Black communities what they would be doing if they were free, speaking on the futures envisioned in the past by Black activists, artists, and more. This documentary will highlight the manner in which Black people express and imagine the future creatively, spiritually, and communally. Through an analysis of the past and present, it will then ask what steps should be taken to reach this point of liberation (speaking on different political ideologies) and what liberation potentially looks like. There will be a use of interviews, 2D & 3D animation, narrative shorts, artistic and cultural references, and more.
