Hello friends! We have decided to go to Ukraine to help with the humanitarian crisis unfolding there.  We consider this to be the greatest humanitarian catastrophy of our time and we can't sit home and do nothing.  Julianna is a nurse and I speak Russian. We can do some good over there.  We have been in touch with several aid groups and things on the ground are changing so quickly that we just are going to head over there on our own.  Our plan is to buy a van in Romania and drive it in to Ukraine. This will ensure we have shelter at all times and we can quickly get out of any situation if trouble is brewing.  We're also told that a van would be the most help in shuttling supplies and people, since the logistics are snarled.  If you haven't already, please watch the video that Ukrainian President Zelensky showed to the US  Congress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFe-108zQSI
We must act and we need your help.

We have been in Ukraine and Poland for almost three weeks now and our Mission is beginning to take shape. After a fair amount difficulty, we aquired a big cargo van with the help of the amazing network of volunteers over here. The other night we met up with other volunteers and loaded our van to the brim with baby formula, diapers, pasta, mush, cooking oil, cereals, and other food products for Kharkiv, one of the hardest hit cities (and second largest city in Ukraine) of the war. We have joined a vast network of independed aid workers who are operating on their own, doing the transportation logistics that large NGO's can't or are unwilling to do. So we have received these items from a couple of aid groups in Poland and we will be delivering them to a few other groups in Kharkiv. While there we will join an informal distribution network that is currently feeding 1500 residents per week. Julianna will also split her time volunteering at the local hospital, which is badly understaffed.  She is working with a group called August Mission to put together an ambulance network to evacuate the worst of those that need to be evacuated to Poland.  While the food we are currently hauling is provided by aid groups, we are paying for the fuel and our lodging as we travel, so your donations are really coming in handy here.  Once in kharkiv we will update you as to how we can most help those desperate and hungry residents.   Thank you for your prayers, intentions, and good energy!!! And thank you for your generous contributions!!!!

Hey everyone!!!! We've been in Ukraine for about a week now and it has been AMAZING! The people here are so grateful for the influx of foreign volunteers.  Everyone we run into says "Tell your American friends we are so grateful for their support." :') We have met up with a group called the August Mission, a group of humanitarian volunteers from Utah.  Julianna's Nursing skills have come in very handy.  She's consulted on the possible emergency transfer of an infant from the Mariupol area, and we've spent out days volunteering wherever we're needed.  We've only recently had much time to embark on our van search seriously, but we hope to aquire one in short order and head east toward the conflict zone (don't worry... not too close!) With the previous russian advance stalled, the flow of refugees has stalled. But with the renewed Russian offensive, we expect the flow of refugees to begin again in earnest.  We feel our skills are most needed in east central Ukraine.  Thank you so much to everyone that has contributed, we couldn't have done this without you!!! The Ukrainian government has continually expressed their support to the foreign volunteers here to help, but the reality is that the volunteers here need to pay their own way.  Your donations will help provide us the essentials: food, fuel, and housing so we can keep helping the good people of Ukraine.  We pray this conflict ends soon.
