On Aug. 8, 2023, Sherene Aun, of Missoula, MT - a Navy veteran and single mother of a 16-year-old daughter - was nearly killed while riding her motorcycle to her second job.
A man, later found to have 2X the legal limit of THC in his blood, attempted to drive across a multi-lane highway during rush hour. He crossed Sherene's path and her Triumph Bonneville slammed into his car.
The accident fractured both of Sherene's legs, both her feet, both her arms, both her wrists, all of her ribs, her neck her pelvis, her jaw and her skull. It also nearly severed her carotid artery and caused some traumatic brain damage due to strokes.
Swift action by paramedics and doctors saved her life. She was flown to the University of Utah Hospital Trauma Center and underwent numerous major surgeries. She finally was able to return home on Dec. 29, but is still unable to walk.
Despite the generosity of many people, Sherene - who has a master's degree and was employed as a clinical lead for people with severe disabling mental illness - needs financial help until she can return to work. She is nearly out of money and the bills keep coming.
