This is my story

My name is Jeanette. I'm 70 plus years old and recently had to move to a Senior Apartment Facility (My landlord sold her house 3/24)

In 2022 ( breast cancer) I went through chemo and radiation for breast cancer and after my final treatment November 18, 2023, I thank God, I'm a survivor.

November, 2023, I was told that I had to move. There was no Thanksgiving dinner cooked nor Christmas decorations in 2023. Trying to find an affordable, safe and decent place to live in Oakland is ridiculous. Waitlist after waitlist and hoping my 2006 Toyota Corolla as it is in need of some very much needed TLC would last a little while longer.

In February 2024, I began the process of moving and in March, I moved in. Now, I'm on another waitlist for a parking stall, there are not enough stalls for some existing or new residents. Still adjusting to the move and my saving dwindling , I strive to stay healthy, stress free, and a blessing to someone else and especially my 12 year old granddaughter who is precious to me.

Now, weekly, I go to the Senior Center and volunteer to help distribute food to  Seniors and the community and participate in fund raising events.

Now, as I try to pay attention  to my car, I catch a nail and the tire couldn't be fixed.  I ended up having to purchase 2 new tires rotating the other tires to the back. ($377.00).  Now, registration time and my car won't pass smog ($90.00). Diagnostic test ($160) and the mechanics now says it's the transmission ($4,000) to fix. I don't think so.

Ok, so I pray and continue on, what do I do? I keep it moving and do things to make me happy. However, on Tuesday, August 20, I park my car and prepare myself to go to the Senior Center as I do every Wednesday

On Wed, August 21, 2024, I prepare go and as I get near my car, I notice my car is leaning. I get closer and a tire is missing, then 2 tires, 3 tires, all 4 of my tires, rims in all were gone, stolen. The police said I had to file my report on line, so I did that. Allstate already went up on my monthly premium from $110. to $177.

Leonard and Jeanette,  residents that I don't know,  took it upon themselves to locate 4 tires and 4 rims ($270.00) took me to pick them up and put them on my car and would only accept gas money as payment.

My car still needs to have work done, smog, tags, brakes and paint.. And truthfully, I don't feel comfortable or safe driving that car anymore. I feel violated and I found out my car was listed as salvaged and totaled in 2013.

I feel in my heart that I need a new car. I want to be able to go to church, go to my grand daughter's volleyball games and other activities.

I can't afford to purchase a brand new car and I don't have a large enough down payment to keep my payments down under $250 a month. I don't to be scammed either as some auto dealers don't care what they sell you.

That's why I'm going this route and asking for help.
