Two organizations, with Baltimore roots, are partnering in response to the deadly war in Ukraine to deliver critically needed humanitarian supplies to Ukraine and to Baltimore’s beautiful sister port city of Odesa. The Baltimore-Odesa Sister City Committee (BOSCC) and Mission to Ukraine aim to raise $500,000 starting Wednesday, May 18th until May 31st.
We are doing this on-the-ground in Europe and the urgency of the Baltimore-Odesa Sister City Challenge fundraiser cannot be understated as battles intensify daily and lives are lost in Odesa and throughout Ukraine.

BOSCC is a non-profit volunteer organization. The sister city relationship between Baltimore and Odesa was formed in 1974 to promote mutual economic development and cultural exchange. Its chairwoman, Karina Mandell, was born in Dnipro, Ukraine, and immigrated in 1996. She attended Beth Tfiloh in Pikesville. Secretary, Slava Kuperstein, is from Odesa, and, in 1989, arrived as a refugee and settled with his family in Pikesville.

Mission to Ukraine is a boots-on-the-ground humanitarian aid organization that procures and delivers direct aid using an extensive supply and distribution network throughout the EU and inside of Ukraine. Co-founder, Mark Kreynovich, is a Baltimore-native who immigrated in 1998 at age 6-months from Kharkiv, Ukraine. He grew up in Pikesville and graduated from Towson High School.

Mission to Ukraine was founded by Mark Kreynovich and Dillon Carroll. They met as first year roommates at Cornell University and visited Ukraine together in 2018. News of the war galvanized them to fly to Eastern Europe to help. Mission to Ukraine’s network extends directly into areas such as Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mariupol, Donetsk, and Mykolaiv, where they speak directly with medical professionals, civilian volunteer networks, and logistics partners on-the-ground to provide immediate aid. Since inception, Mission to Ukraine has raised over $400,000 and has delivered a wide variety of humanitarian supplies, medicine and communications equipment to Ukrainians. Donations will be used to procure and deliver emergency medical devices, medicine, life-saving protective gear, and other critical materials to Ukrainians under seige.
