I have some friends that are in need of some help. The Kesler family is a family of 3 with 4 pets (2 cats, 1 dog, and 1 pig). Their HVAC Unit has gone completely out and is just too old to fix anymore. The motor in the unit is fried and it has causing other damages. The unit is over 30 years old and has been repaired constantly over the past 3 years. They called a HVAC company and he said that there was no fixing it any longer. The total cost of the 4 ton compact unit and instill is around $20,000 to $25,000. The HVAC company is willing to work with them as much as he can. He said that if they could pay a $10,000 deposit, then he would put the rest on a payment plan. They have tried to get financing, but aren’t eligible for it and they can’t afford the deposit. Their credit is shot due to them having to use their credit cards to make it through the COVID pandemic. They have been working on restoring their credit, but it takes time.
They have looked into installing window units; however, with further investigation, the 103-year-old windows have been nailed shut and painted over heavily. There is a fear of breaking the original hand-blown window panes when trying to pull the nails out. So, that option is out, because it would cost more money to replace the windows than it would to replace the HVAC. They currently have 3-4 fans on in each room, but due to the high ceilings, they don’t do much in helping to cool the family or the pets. The temperature inside the house reaches 96°+ with 72%+ humidity during the day and doesn’t fall much during the night. They open the doors when they can, but can’t leave them open all the time due to the fact that the cats will get out.
Briana has a lot of health issues (including heart issues & she is only 34) and this heat is making her blood pressure spike. And there is a fear of heat stroke for the family of 3 and their pets. We have tried our best to help out as much as we can and have tried to find a company that will work with them, but we have exhausted all our leads. The company that we found is the only one willing to work with them after the deposit is paid. They are a proud, responsible family, they work hard, and pay their bills.
